My Halloween Story

The night was cold as two best friends walked down the road. It was damp, considering the odd snowfall two days before had been melting. The grass was mushy, with miniature puddles everywhere. But that didn't stop the girls from having a good time. The night was dark, quiet. Half of the neighborhood was probably asleep, the other half waiting for kids to go to their doors.

Haley, dressed as the Sun-Drop girl (headband, shorts, leg warmers), came to a stop. Her friend and, Brittany (dressed as a Hawk Boy - Haley's brother's camo pants and his polo), stopped to. They looked at Haley's phone, "7:34," they said at the same time. They giggled and walked up to another house. As they rung the doorbell, dogs started barking. When the homeowner finally shoved the gnarly dogs aside and opened the door, Haley and Brittany had their bags open.

"Happy Halloween!" they said loud, but not too loud.

"Happy Halloween to yourselves! Pick any two!" the man said, looking back through the screen to see his dogs sitting.

"Thank you, have a good night!" Brittany said, being polite.

"You, too!" the stranger happily said back.

Haley and Brittany decided to skip some of the houses that had creepy vans in them, or the ones with the lights off. After forty-five minutes or so, making sure to hit everybody that they knew's house, they walked back to Haley's. When they arrived, nobody was home.

"Haley, is this your clarinet?" Brittany asked, picking up an instrument case.

"Yeah, you can play it if you want."
The girls went up to Haley's room, where Brittany assembled the instrument. She then began to figure out tunes, such as Jolly Old Saint Nicholas and Kesha's Blow. Just then, Haley's phone wrung. It was Molly, one of their other best friends. She had just gotten home from trick-or-treating with her sister and her friends. That's when they first heard the noise.

"Haley, somebody's in your house."

"... MOM! MOM! DAD!" she yelled at the top of her lungs. There was no answer, "Go lock my door!" she commanded of Brittany. Doing as she said, Haley told Molly what was going on. Her dog started going ballistic, and they finally let him out of her room.

A long time passed, then they decided to go downstairs. It turned out to be Haley's mom and dad and Brittany's dad. They said their thank-yous and goodbyes, then Brittany headed home. They had, had a fun evening, but it was time to call it quits. The girls will always remember the time when they went trick-or-treating together and completely flipped out when they got back.

Brittany be sure to make a new paragraph each time someone talks in your story. Is this a true story?
